Hermann Oak Leather
Creating Leather That Stands the Test of Time
Since 1881, Hermann Oak Leather has been dedicated to producing the finest vegetable-tanned leather. Rooted in the heart of St. Louis, Missouri, our family-owned business has grown over five generations, earning a reputation for uncompromising quality, traditional craftsmanship, and superior customer service.

Every hide that enters our tannery undergoes a meticulous process perfected over more than 140 years. We blend time-honored techniques with modern expertise to create leather that is strong, durable, and exceptionally workable. From saddle makers to belt crafters, shoemakers, and artisans of all kinds, our leather is trusted by makers and celebrated by those who value products built to last.
Our Tanning Process
At Hermann Oak, we specialize in old-world vegetable tanning. This process takes time—more time than modern methods—but it’s worth it. Our tanning method not only enhances the natural beauty of the leather but also ensures a product that ages gracefully, gaining character with every use.

We proudly source 100% of our hides from American cattle, working entirely in the United States. This commitment to local materials and craftsmanship reflects our dedication to supporting American industries while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
A Legacy of Excellence
With over a century of experience, Hermann Oak Leather has stood the test of time by staying true to the values that built our business: craftsmanship, tradition, and a deep respect for the materials we work with. As we move forward, we remain committed to serving our customers with the same passion and dedication that has defined us for generations.
Whether you’re a seasoned craftsman, a large-scale manufacturer, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of well-made leather, we invite you to experience the difference of Hermann Oak.
